Violence's Boyd Blasts Home a 'TDN Rising Star' in Del Mar Debut

Boyd | Benoit

Boyd (Violence), a $1.05-million purchase after galloping at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May sale, galloped again, this time romping home a 5 1/2-length debut winner at Del Mar Sunday. The victory was the second seven-figure juvenile winner on the card for Amr Zedan's Zedan Racing following Brant (Gun Runner)'s win in the GI Del Mar Futurity two races earlier.

Sent off the even-money favorite, Boyd was hustled out to the early lead and was easily in control through a quarter in :21.32. He turned for home three lengths in front, completed the half in :43.91, and gave his backers their only anxious moment when drifting in and appearing to brush the rail in upper stretch. Boyd was quickly righted by jockey Tyler Gaffalione and sailed home an easy geared-down winner.

Boyd was bred by Nassar Omirah, who purchased A Taste of Red with the future 'TDN Rising Star' in utero, for $27,000 at the 2022 Keeneland November sale. The mare, who is a half-sister to graded winners Tower of Texas (Street Sense) and Street Sounds (Street Cry {Ire}), was exported to Saudi Arabia.

Boyd originally sold for $82,000 a weanling at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton November sale. He was purchased for $280,000 at last year's Keeneland September sale and was sold at the Midlantic sale by Tori and Jimbo Gladwell's Top Line Sales.

6th-Del Mar, $82,500, Msw, 9-7, 2yo, 5 1/2f, 1:02.79, ft, 5 3/4 lengths.
